The Audi R8 established itself as one of the most attractive and high-performing sports cars available to drivers around the world. Then it was announced that the second generation would be introduced, evolving the popular model into the future and everyone began to wait with bated breath. Then at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the new R8 was finally unveiled. Or rather, the new R8's were introduced, Audi introduced the R8, R8 V10 Plus, R8 LMS, and the R8 E-Tron, and fans everywhere found themselves more excited than ever.
Of the new R8 options, the R8 LMS will be relegated to the world of track racing alone, where it will undoubtedly come to dominate the tracks. The V10 and V10 Plus engines available in the last generation are once again options, though the V8 is no longer available, removing a less popular option and ensuring the optimal driving experience is had behind the wheel of the R8.
The most exciting of the next-generation is undoubtedly the R8 E-Tron, the fully electric, and astonishingly powerful R8 many have dreamed of. Skeptics will furrow their brows at the idea of an electric R8, but before they do so they should consider the two rear-mounted engines delivering 456-horsepower and 679 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels via a newly-developed Quattro AWD system.
